Deceased driver found in submerged truck

MINDEN, ON- A missing person has been found dead in Algonquin Highlands.

According to the OPP, members of the Haliburton Highlands detachment were called out around 9:00 p.m. last night to look for a missing person in the area.

They patrolled along Highway 35 and the surrounding area.

This morning, just after 8:30 a.m. the missing person’s pickup truck was located submerged in Kushog Lake, next to the highway. They were found by a family member.

OPP members from the Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) attended and confirmed that the deceased person was inside the vehicle, and helped with the removal.

Highway 35 remains closed while OPP members trained in collision reconstruction investigate and gather evidence.

Police continue to investigate the cause of this collision.

The deceased has been transported to the Ontario Forensic Pathology Unit in Toronto pending a post mortem examination.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.

Police have confirmed the deceased person and the missing person were the same individual.
