Support the Shoebox Project this winter season

MUSKOKA, ON-If you re looking for a cause to support this winter season, the Shoebox Project aims to help women in tough transitional periods by giving them simple essentials that boost their self esteem and reduce feelings of isolation.

Penny Burns, one of the coordinators for the Muskoka Shoebox Project, brought the program to the Muskoka area with her friends four years ago when they were looking to support their community.

Each shoebox is filled with items that equal about $50 dollars, and decorated uniquely by each person who decides to donate one.

Burns says that each show box should contain something warm, something chocolate, and something sparkly. Items ranging from hats, mitts, scarves, makeup and playing cards are always welcome.

The finishing touch for each shoebox is a motivational letter to let those who receive the boxes, telling them that there is someone who cares.
