Cancelled Sunday power outages to be re-scheduled

HUNTSVILLE, ON- Power outages that were set for Sunday are getting re-set for some communities in our region.

Last week, Hydro One announced a pair of outages for multiple communities across Muskoka and areas northeast of Parry Sound.

  • Outage 1 on October 27, 2019 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. will impact approximately 2,000 residential customers and 2,400 seasonal customers in the townships of Franklin, Brunel, Lake of Bays, Mcclintock, Finlayson, Chaffey, Ridout, Peck, Chapman, and Hunter.
  • Outage 2 on October 27, 2019 from 7 a.m. to noon will impact approximately 3,923 residential customers and 4,670 seasonal customers in the townships of Monck, Humphrey, Medora, Cardwell, Watt, Muskoka, Stephenson, Seguin, Mckellar, Monteith, Croft, Armour, Strong, Ryerson, Chapman, Joly, Magnetawan, Laurier. During this outage, parts of Lakeland Power Distribution’s service territory will also be impacted in Burk’s Falls and Sundridge.

However, six of those communities didn’t have the lights turn off. Due to customer impact, Hydro One announced that those outages would be cancelled on Sunday morning.

The cancelled area includes Medora, Watt, Monck, Brunel, Chaffey and Franklin.

According to Hydro One spokesperson Tiziana Baccega-Rosa, outages will be re-scheduled for those six areas. The re-scheduled times will be announced once the outages are approved.

She also said Hydro One was working on enhancements to their online outage map, which will eventually show areas impacted by planned outages as well as unscheduled outages.

A time frame on that enhancement is not known at this time.

The work on Sunday was meant to install six smart switches across the region, which Hydro One said would help limit the amount of customers hit by outages, and improve restoration time.

Baccega-Rosa said the work was accomplished in the areas where the power was off. Where it was left on, the work wasn’t done.
