Inquest announced into death of Port Carling construction worker

BRACEBRIDGE, ON- An inquest has been scheduled into the death of a worker in Port Carling.

According to a notice from the province, the worker was Darrell Joseph Pitre. He died in hospital on April 22nd, 2017, after a fall at a construction site at March 3rd of that year in Port Carling. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Pitre’s death.

The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths.

The inquest is expected to last five days and hear from approximately 12 witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, December 9, 2019, at the Bracebridge Court House, 3 Dominion St.

Dr. Mary E. Bourne will preside as inquest coroner and Frank Giordano will be counsel to the coroner.
