Police release names of deceased in Monday’s train collision

MACHAR, ON – Officials have released the names of the man and woman killed after a truck they were travelling in collided with a train this week.

Almaguin Highlands – Burk’s Falls Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) confirmed 51-year-old Cecil Aho and 52-year-old Bernadette Laing, both of Strong Township, were the ones who died in the collision.

Officers, South River Machar Fire Department and Sundrige-Strong Volunteer Fire Department responded to the incident on Machar-Strong Boundary Road at roughly 10 a.m. Monday morning.

OPP Technical Collision Investigators, Canadian National Police Service and Parry Sound Emergency Medical Services are collaborating in the investigation.

Police haven’t released what caused the collision but said there will be no charges laid.
