Trudeau draws crowd in Parry Sound

PARRY SOUND, ON- Justin Trudeau came to Parry Sound-Muskoka today.

The Liberal leader was in town while heading south from Sudbury, where he had announced a new policy granting $2000 to low-income Canadian families looking to visit national parks.

The Parry Sound stop did not have any policy announcements, and did not have a question and answer period with the press.

However, Trudeau did spend time with local candidate Trisha Cowie, as well as a fair turnout of area residents seeking to take pictures with the politician.

The event started around 1:00, when Trudeau arrived at the Stockey Centre on Parry Sound’s waterfront. He then went for a walk with Cowie and local families along the community’s Fitness Trail.

Once they returned to the centre, Trudeau paused to take photos and speak with members of the small crowd that turned out for the event. There appeared to be just over 100 people in attendance.

After he finished taking photos and speaking to attendees, Trudeau got back on his bus and continued south.

Cowie was visibly excited to have the leader present in the area, and told reporters that the visit showed Trudeau’s interest in rural ridings.

“He cares about the rural perspective, and he spent the time to shake everybody’s hand, and really listening to what people were asking him about and the concerns they were talking about,” said Cowie.

As for what she discussed with Trudeau during their walk, Cowie said it was a casual conversation.

Asked about the turnout for the short-notice event, Cowie said it was “really good”.

“He’s an inspiring leader, and I think he resonates with a lot of people,” said Cowie.

“It’s a lot of excitement, people are excited.”
