Grocery store robbery suspect involved in more than 35 bank break-ins: police

ORILLIA, ON- The Ontario police force has provided more information about 54 year old Shaun Chaulk.

Last week, police had said the Mississauga resident was suspected in a grocery store robbery in the Bolton area on August 25th and 26th, and warned he may have been in the Huntsville area.

Officers later arrested him in northern Ontario the same week, though where he was taken into custody was not made available at the time.

The OPP is now saying that Chaulk is suspected of being involved with more than 35 break ins to banks throughout Ontario, including locations in Caledon, York, Peel, Toronto, Orangeville, Barrie, South Simcoe, Nottawasaga, Orillia, Collingwood, Huntsville, Bracebridge and Sudbury.

He was found last Friday around 3:30 a.m. at a hotel in White River,  which is roughly halfway between Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie on the TransCanada Highway.

Officers from the Superior East Detachment of the OPP, the Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the Canine Unit attended the scene to assist with Chaulk’s arrest.

He’s now facing the following charges:

  • Robbery;
  • Multiple break and enters;
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000;
  • Fail to comply with recognizance, and
  • Fail to comply with probation order.

He remains in custody and will be transported to Southern Ontario, where he will be facing additional charges.

  • Hunstville OPP, and
  • Superior East OPP.
