Tips for seasonal cottage shutdown

By Rick Lowes

MUSKOKA, ON  – It’s getting to be the time of year when a lot of property owners consider closing and winterizing their cottages and seasonal homes.

The OPP say that these seasonal properties are most vulnerable to thieves from the weekend following Thanksgiving to the weeks prior to Victoria Day and are offering some tips to protect your property.

Police say close window curtains and blinds and put up shutters.

Remove all food and alcohol and all firearms or weapons.

Attempt to make your property look lived in with lamps on timers and use exterior lights with a motion sensor.

Also  if possible get to know your neighbours who have permanent homes in the area and ask if they can check the property on a regular basis.
