District seeks feedback on Waste Management Strategy

BRACEBRIDGE, ON –  The District of Muskoka is interested in the public’s perspective on Waste Management Strategy.

The topic is top of mind of many municipalities as costs related to recycling and waste management, in general, have sky-rocketed in Canada.

Some of the areas being looked at by the District include enhanced reduction, reusing, recycling, and composting programs.

In a press release, the District is asking for residents to provide suggestions and share their ideas through “scheduled Community Consultation Sessions and an online “Waste Matters” survey.”

Fred Jahn, Commissioner of Engineering and Public Works said it is important to identify what is important to rate-payers.

“The District is always looking at ways to divert more material, including recyclables, from ending up in the landfill – while ensuring that the level and cost of waste management services are satisfactory and reasonable,” said Jahn.   “Feedback and ideas from the community are critical to ensure that the strategy is successful and has the impact needed to protect Muskoka’s natural environment.”

The schedule of Community Consultation Sessions began this week and continues until September 12, 2019.  A session takes place this evening in Port Carling at the community centre (see below). The sessions will provide detailed information on the District’s current waste management system and provide an opportunity to give feedback on various alternatives for the future.

To provide input through the online survey, click here. It is live until October 11th.
