OPP looking for missing swimmer in Peninsula Lake

PENINSULA LAKE, ON- Police are looking for a man who went missing while swimming in Peninsula Lake yesterday.

According to the OPP, emergency services were first notified of two missing people in the lake around 5:00 p.m. yesterday. Officers, paramedics, and the local fire department all responded to the scene.

A woman in a boat was located, who told police her husband and son had gone for a swim when the swim when the wind picked up and the boat floated away. She wasn’t able to get the boat started again, and dialed 911 for help.

The Huntsville Fire marine and the Huntsville OPP Marine Unit along with the police helicopter searched the waters for the missing people.

Sometime after the initial search, the son was located by boaters in the area and taken to shore. He was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released. All emergency personnel continued searching for the father, until near dusk.

Huntsville detachment members along with Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) will return to resume the search for the man today.

Boaters are asked to stay clear of the search area.
