Local man injured in North Atlantic dive

MUSKOKA, ON- Kim Martin needs help.

Martin is a local scuba diver from the Muskoka area, who had been part of a group of divers on a trip to the RMS Lusitania in August 8th.

The vessel was sunk off the coast of Ireland by a German U-boat back in 1915, which brought America into WWI.

While the group had been exploring the wreck, an unexpected incident occurred and Martin surfaced without completing his decompression stops.

After being treated at the surface for the bends, he was airlifted to the nearest hyperbaric chamber in order to save his life.

Since the incident, the GoFundMe states that Martin has faced a number of challenges and still has a very long road to recovery.

The GoFundMe states that Martin is a well-known diver in Canada, and was awarded the Canadian Medal of Bravery in 1996 for assisting with the rescue of a lost cave diver in Tobermory.

“We tell this story to paint a picture of a man who is in the battle of his life, for his life,” the GoFundMe states.

“We ask you to please show Kim the same selfless act of kindness he once showed a fellow diver in need. Please rally behind us by making donations to help battle the escalating costs associated with Kim’s recovery. I’m sure you would all agree, financial burden is the last thing Kim’s family should have to deal with.”
