MAHC reports one hospital for all of Muskoka in Port Sydney is not an option

Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) has ruled out building one hospital for all of Muskoka in Port Sydney. In a press release, the organization reports it’s received clear guidance from the District of Muskoka regarding boundaries and restrictions of municipal servicing. MAHC says that’s eliminated the option to build one new hospital for all of Muskoka in the Port Sydney/Utterson area despite the fact they are planning for the distant future 20 years from now. The release still indicates it will be more expensive to build two acute care hospital sites, as opposed to one and that the community will share in redevelopment costs. The steering committee overseeing planning work reccomends additional analysis and investigation into a new model that blends the benefits of each model into a solution that meets the needs of the community and MAHC.
