Perry Township man charged after Emsdale death

EMSDALE, ON- Charges have been laid after the death of a woman in Perry Township this week.

According to a news release from the OPP, members of the Almaguin Highlands detachment responded to an address in Perry Township on Monday night shortly after 8:40 p.m. along with paramedics and firefighters.

That address is believed to have been 625 Deer Lake Road. On Wednesday, crime scene tape still surrounded a white passenger car in a driveway at that address.

Emergency services had come because a woman had been struck by a car in the area. Heidi Lynn Slessor, a 34 year old from Armour Township, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Thomas Stevens, a 26 year old from Perry Township, has now been charged with operation causing death and failing to provide a breath sample.

He will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice tomorrow for a bail hearing in Parry Sound.

The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the OPP Crime Unit, Forensic Identification Services (FIS) and the Regional Support Team (RST) under the direction of Detective Inspector Laura Houliston of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
