Whether you used or not, the O.P.P. wants 911 called during an overdose

ORILLIA, ON – The police are using an awareness campaign to emphasize the protection of the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act.

Across the province, opioids are causing thousands of deaths and those numbers continue to rise. The O.P.P. says the numbers and statistics “the profound distress being felt by those impacted. Observers may hesitate to call 911 in fear of police involvement.”

The Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act is designed to protect people that have drugs for personal use, and anyone that is violating conditions of parole, bail, probation or conditional sentence for a simple drug possession charge.

As a way to better connect with communities across the province, the O.P.P. has created awareness posters, information cards and community safety videos to help educate the public and community agencies. These resources, as well as other additional information about the GSDOA, can be found by visiting: www.opp.ca/overdose and OPP social media accounts.

Ontario’s police force reiterates that “even if you’ve taken drugs or have some on you, the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act can protect you.”
