Rain barrels available through District program

MUSKOKA, ON – Rain barrels are once again available from the District of Muskoka.

After two previously successful seasons offering the popular garden accessory, the rain barrel program has returned for 2019.

Intended to promote water conservation and help better manage storm run-off, the barrels tend to get snapped up quickly. Residents are eligible for one 240 litre rain barrel per property at a subsidized rate of $25. Additional barrels are available for $46.

Fully subsidized barrels are available for homeowners who connect to the municipal wastewater system but divert their downspouts into a barrel.

“Rain barrels reduce stress on Muskoka’s waterways and groundwater reserves and save residents money by decreasing the amount of municipally treated water used for yard and garden purposes,” said Michael Duben, CAO at the District of Muskoka.

Orders are first-come, first serve and are available while supplies last until June 26, 2019.  Rain barrels can be picked up on July 4th and 6th.
