Rob Ford’s widow to run in federal election; More of the same weather in store for summer

Renata Ford to run for PPC

Rob Ford’s widow is taking a run at federal politics.  Renata Ford, the wife of the infamous former Toronto mayor, will run for the new People’s Party of Canada in a Toronto area riding.  The PPC was created by Maxime Bernier after a very public split with the Conservative party.

Temperatures to stay “comfortable” in Central Canada

If you love the heat, you may be sorely disappointed this summer.  Dave Phillips, Environment Canada’s senior climatologist tells CTV News that in Ontario and Quebec, we will likely see more of the same as we have this spring over the next three months, with temperatures being much more comfortable than last summer.

Senate blocks three bills

Three bills in front of the Senate are not going anywhere.  One of the bills introduced by outgoing MP Rona Ambrose was to give sexual assault sensitivity training to federal judges but Conservative senators in a procedural manoeuvre, blocked it from going farther.  Two other bills, including one to ban advertising of unhealthy food to children, are almost certainly set for the same fate.

Stat holiday likely not to pass

A national holiday designed to honour Indigenous peoples is not likely to get past the Senate.  The stat holiday known as “National Day for Truth and Reconciliation” was supposed to be marked on September 30th, however, with Parliament set to adjourn before it can pass through the Red Chamber, it is likely not to become law.
