Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP Norm Miller said the naming of David Lindsay as a special advisor for recycling and plastic waste is a good one.
Miller has been a longtime champion of recycling, reducing plastic waste and holding companies that produce waste accountable for their output.
“I have a long track record of putting forward ideas to help protect our environment,” said Miller. “Fourteen years ago I tabled a Private Members Bill to make producers responsible for the waste created by their products and packaging. While the McGuinty government passed legislation that claimed to do that, it hasn’t been successful so we need to do something about it now.”

Miller noted that waste diversion rates appear to have stalled around the 30 per cent rate over the last 15 years which means 70 per cent of waste is going to a landfill site.
“I have faith that David Lindsay will work with Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks Rod Phillips to find a solution that will really hold producers responsible for the waste they create,” said Miller.
