Parry Sound-Muskoka NDP nominee attending provincial convention

The federal NDP candidate for Parry Sound-Muskoka, Tom Young, is attending the party’s convention in Hamilton as a delegate.

In a Facebook post, Young is shown with federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh.

Young wrote, “I had the pleasure of chatting with Jagmeet about the great things the federal NDP’s want to do for my neighbours in Parry Sound Muskoka.”

Young was recently approved as the party’s federal candidate for the riding after running unopposed.

Provincial NDP leader Andrea Horwath addressed the crowd, sending a message to Muskoka residents in part by saying, “ “I believe that no family should have to evacuate their home, year and year after year because floodwaters keep rushing in.”

Horwath’s plan includes the largest building retrofit program in the world, a jobs-training guarantee, a community support guarantee and an industry support guarantee.

The convention, with over 1,500 attendees, continues to Sunday afternoon at the Hamilton Convention Centre.
