Parry Sound-Muskoka need to be concerned about flooding

A flood outlook statement has been issued for the Parry Sound District and surrounding areas.  The Ministry of Natural Resources is advising area residents that flooding is a strong possibility within the District which includes the District Municipality of Muskoka, the Territorial District of Parry Sound and a north-west portion in the County of Haliburton.  Water levels and flows are expected to rise early this week as a result of forecasted rainfall, above freezing air temperatures and melting of the existing snow pack.  A total of 15-35mm of rain is expected to have fall in the region by the end of today and water levels and flows are expected to rise.  The amount of runoff into local bodies of water, which are already higher than normal for this time of year, and the impact on water levels and flows will depend on the actual amount of rainfall received and extent of snow pack melt.  Residents affected by high water conditions in the past should take necessary action to secure any vulnerable property close to rivers and lakes and closely monitor developing conditions over the next few days.  People are asked to exercise caution and ensure their children and pets stay away from fast moving rivers and streams.
