Province looking at repair options for washed-away Port Sydney dam parking lot

PORT SYDNEY, ON- The waterfall at Port Sydney doesn’t have much in the way of parking at the moment.

The slide waterfall is located in the middle of the community, just downriver of the dam at the bottom of Mary Lake. It’s a well-known spot in the area, and can usually be accessed from the east side of the river, where a road led to parking adjacent to the dam and falls.

However, that parking lot is now gone.

Recent flooding overtopped the lower part of the dam, and gradually wiped away the parking lot from its original location. Visitors to the area will now be blocked from driving closer than just off the road by a warning sign from the provincial Ministry of Natural Resources.

The ministry is also responsible for the site, due to it being Crown land. According to their communications department, options for repair to the lot are being considered, as well as the costs associated with those options.

There is no firm timeline for a decision getting made. In the meantime, visitors should plan on finding alternate parking if they want to check out the falls.
