District of Muskoka looking into garbage bin incident

BRACEBRIDGE, ON- The District of Muskoka is taking a look at why a garbage collector threw some bins around.

In a video posted by Muskoka411 News, a garbage collection worker that appears to be collecting from a property within the district is shown tossing and kicking a green bin after emptying it into a truck, and tossing the second bin to the ground after emptying it.

The video was posted early yesterday evening, and the MyMuskokaNow.com newsroom reached out to the district for more comment on what was shown in the video on Tuesday morning.

According to the district, Waste Connections of Canada was immediately contacted in order to be informed about the situation with their employee.

“This level of service is not acceptable and we thanked the customer for bringing it to our attention so we can work with the contractor to ensure this type of behaviour does not happen again,” said the district, in an emailed statement.

“Waste Connections assured us that the incident would be followed up and also agreed the behaviour was unacceptable.”

The district said that they told the customer that green bins are provided at no cost, and any broken or damaged bins would be replaced at no cost.

As for whether or not the worker would face any repercussions, the district couldn’t speak on the contractor’s behalf.

Any residents who experience issues with curbside collection should get in touch with Waste Connections Canada directly, as they are also contracted to provide customer assistance and resolve service issues.

Unresolved issues should be brought up to the district’s Engineering and Public Works department.
