New trustee appointed for Simcoe Muskoka Catholic board

A replacement for a Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board trustee has been found.

Joe Zerding was appointed Wednesday night as the replacement for former trustee Nate Brown who resigned recently.

Normally a position that is voted upon, the board chose to advertise the post and create a list of applicants that were then interviewed by the Board of the Trustees.

Zerdin is pleased to be the new trustee.

“I have been involved with Catholic education as a volunteer at the school level for the past 14 years. When the opportunity to serve as trustee arose, I felt a calling to take the next step,” he said. “I feel honoured and blessed to play such an integral role in supporting Catholic education in my community.”

“The selection process was extensive and we were pleased to receive so many qualified applicants,” said Carol Corriveau-Truchon, Board Chair. “The trustees look forward to having Joe at the Board table – throughout the process, we were impressed with his commitment to Catholic education, especially through his active participation on school and community councils.”

She adds the timing of Zerding’s addition to the board is good because of the budget process being discussed currently.

“Joe’s appointment to this position comes at a good time since we are busy with budget deliberations and many end of year student and staff celebrations,” said Corriveau-Truchon. “We are thrilled to be back at full strength at such a critical time for education and we certainly look forward to the experience he will bring to the table.”
