Open-Air burn leads to $30,000 in damages

The fire department is extending a warning after a fire cost a property owners thousands.

Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department responded to reports of a pair of sheds on fire Sunday evening. The fire was on Hughes Road property in Port Sydney.

According to the department, firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the sheds. The home did suffer some damage due to the heat of the fire.

Firefighters learned that the homeowner was burning material in a barrel when they learned the shed had caught on fire as well. The department believes that embers met with combustible material next to the shed. At that point the first shed caught and the fire spread to the second one.
