Parry Sound-Muskoka Conservative nomination race up to four

The race for who’ll be the next Conservative candidate in Parry Sound-Muskoka has another contestant.

Alan Fraser is throwing his hat into the ring, bringing the field of candidates up to four. The lawyer from Bracebridge is taking on Huntsville Mayor Scott Aitchison, Chartered Accountant Holly Thompson, and Meghan Shannon from MacTier who has a PhD in Geography and Environmental Management.

When he was a kid Fraser went to Monck Public School and Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School. He then continued his education at the University of Toronto, the School of Law at the University of Edinburgh and the Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto.

Fraser says he worked in a local small business after completing his studies, has family living and working in the community and is well aware of the challenges faced by small businesses and families in Parry Sound–Muskoka.

He believes that the constituency requires a Conservative candidate that “knows the area, knows the people and understands the economic, social and environmental forces that affect and impact the quality of life in the riding.”

Fraser also founded a charity to support Canadian Forces families that has raised close to $1 million for Canadian Forces families while attending the University of Toronto. He says it’s an initiative that’s very important to him as his late grandfather, who introduced the family to Muskoka in the late 1940s, was a veteran of the Second World War.

The local Conservative riding association has yet to set a date and location for its nomination meeting. The federal election is scheduled for October 21st. You can learn more about Fraser’s platform at his website.
