Bracebridge Mayor and Premier Ford update media on flood

Bracebridge Mayor Graydon Smith and Premier Doug Ford updated the media this morning on the flood emergency that’s been declared.

Premier Ford came to Muskoka early this morning to view the affected areas and threw his support behind the mayor.

“The province is 100 per cent behind them and (we will) spare no resources,” he said.

Smith is directing emergency services to go door-to-door along Springdale Shores to advise it is time to evacuate in that area. Springdale Shores is north of Highway 117 and east of Highway 11.

“We’ve got a number of folks down there and we believe they should be somewhere else,” says Smith. “Emergency services will be canvassing door to door today to assist the evacuation of residents in that area.”

Other areas affected include Holiday Park Drive and a section of Cedar Shores from numbers 10 to 118.

Memorial Arena in Bracebridge has been established as a staging area for any residents who may need help with housing or temporary shelter.

“Because we are at 2013 water levels now and it is expected that it could rise somewhat and could sustain for a number of days, don’t assume that the situation that is occurring today is the situation that is going to be occurring tomorrow,” said Smith.

Ford stressed they were on hand to see what was happening and not get in the way.

“We’re here to observe and not interfere,” said Ford.

The Premier said he would be visiting Huntsville as well with a stop in Port Sydney where his family has a cottage.
