Flood emergency declared in Bracebridge

As a result of continuing rising water levels, Mayor Graydon Smith has declared an Emergency under the Emergency Management & Civil Protection Act.

The Town of Bracebridge has activated its Emergency Plan. The Town’s Emergency Control Group (ECG) is monitoring the situation closely.

The Town of Bracebridge has been advised by the Ministry of Natural Resources of rising water levels on
lakes and rivers. In addition, localized flooding is being experienced in low-lying areas.

Rain forecasted for Bracebridge and surrounding area may have an impact on the extent of flooding. Residents are instructed to take measures to mitigate the effects of flooding on their property and monitor all information from the Town.

There have been a number of roads flooded and washed out and Public Works is responding to these issues on year-round roads. As a result of the number and severity of these washouts, it will take time to
re-open some roads. Motorists are advised to heed road closed signs as roadways may be washed out
but not visible to the driver.

Property owners in adjacent low-lying areas are advised to take precautionary measures to protect
persons and property as water levels continue rise.

Please ensure docks and waterfront structures are securely affixed to shore or removed, if safe to do so. Please alert any children under your care to these dangers and supervise their activities.
