Gravenhurst seeking development charges increase

The Town of Gravenhurst would like to increase its development charges.

These are charges applied to work permits for construction projects such as new homes and commercial spaces. The money charged on these permits helps with costs of running the town including roads, sewers, water, and education.

Municipalities have a built-in by-law through the Development Charges Act of 1997. It requires a public meeting be held when charges are being increased.

The town wants to have a new Development Charges By-law in place prior to the public meeting.

At least one public meeting must be held to give ratepayers a chance to review and provide comments on the April 2019 Development Charges study, along with related staff reports and the proposed Development Charges By-law.

The meeting is scheduled for May 28th at 3:00pm at Gravenhurst Town Council Chambers 3-5 Pineridge Gate.
