Community groups in Gravenhurst received good news this week.

Town council last month approved grant recommendations to eight volunteers and organizations.

Successful applicants were awarded $20,000.

“I continue to be impressed by the amount of dedicated volunteers and community groups that serve our citizens,” said Mayor Paul Kelly. “On behalf of the Terence Haight Committee, and Council, we are extremely pleased to be able to financially assist your ongoing efforts to help make Gravenhurst a better place.”

The committee received 18 submissions totaling over $100,000. The program was established by the town council in 2013 following a $1 million donation to the town by Terence Haight.

The fund’s goal is to provide limited financial assistance to groups and organizations within the municipality to assist with activities, special events or with an improvement to the organization’s existing assets.
