Flood watch in effect

Parry Sound, Muskoka, and the northwest part of Haliburton County are under a flood watch.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says the watch is in effect until next Wednesday. The heavy rain that’s in the forecast is to blame. We could see up to 50 mm of rain over the next three days.

Combine that with melting snow and you have the chance for flooding. The snowpack is still well above average for this time of the year.

People in flood-prone, low lying areas should double check their sump pumps are working. Banks and shorelines adjacent to water bodies are extremely slippery and unstable. Residents and visitors should exercise caution while around water bodies and maintain close supervision of children and pets.

The ministry is closely monitoring the weather and developing watershed conditions. Further updates will be issued as needed.
