Gravenhurst preparing residents for possible flooding

The Town of Gravenhurst is making its residents flood-prepared.

Gravenhurst community emergency management coordinator Todd Clapp advises that property owners need to have a plan in case river levels rise.

“Property owners should be prepared before water levels reach their homes,” said Clapp.  “Particularly in the areas that are prone to high water levels annually, preparation is key to limiting damage.”

There are three areas organized by the town for residents to pick up sand and sandbags.

They are at Cowbell Lane, Severn River Road East (at the Highway 11 cul-de-sac) and the Municipal Public Works yard at 1054 Crawford Road.

Water levels are being monitored daily says manager of operations for Infrastructure Services, Caroline Kirkpatrick.

“As water levels rise this spring, staff will be watching conditions closely and may add additional sand/sandbag locations as conditions warrant,” she says.

The town is asking residents to be extra careful when going near water at this time of year. Things can change quickly with warmer temperatures or a rainstorm creating flood situations in just a few hours.
