Clement attends ceremony to pay tribute to lost WWII aircraft/airmen

Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Tony Clement and other local dignitaries have paid tribute to the people responsible for raising a WWII plane from the depths of Lake Muskoka. He and others attended a special ceremony today to mark the raising of the WWII Northrop Nomad and its two pilots who crashed in the lake back in 1940. The aircraft was discovered by the OPP in July 2010. The aircraft which had been flown by pilots Lieutenant Peter Campbell and Leading Aircraftsman Theodore Bates was raised this past week. In 2012, the pilots bodies were recovered. They were interred one year later. Clement says he’smet, corresponded and advocated for the Lost Airmen team for many years. He added that there are many others, too, who helped keep the project alive and who deserve credit, not the least of which are the people of Muskoka, whose interest and support never wavered.
