Ford and Miller spending day in Muskoka

Premier Doug Ford and Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP Doug Ford are visiting Muskoka today.

On a whirlwind visit through Huntsville and Bracebridge MyMuskokaNow.com caught up with the Premier as he picked up lunch for himself and his staff.

When asked about a return of passenger rail service to the region, he remains committed to making that happen in the next budget.

“We’re getting that done,” he said emphatically. “We just want to see how we move forward. A lot of times those trains aren’t sustainable. We’re going to make it sustainable.”

Miller was a bit more cautious, noting that provincial finance minister Vic Fedeli of North Bay is also for a return of passenger service, but has a lot of considerations in the budget.

“He’s got a huge challenge in that we started with a $15 billion deficit,” explains Miller. “We’ve worked it down to $13 and a half billion and that’s the reality, so I am sure that will factor how quickly the government is able to bring passenger rail back.”

The pair will be attending spaghetti dinner in Bracebridge and a meet and greet in the Port Carling area later this evening.
