District getting more than $100k for climate change

The District of Muskoka is getting some grant money to help with climate change.

The Canadian Federation of Municipalities is giving the district $106,812. The district is one of 58 places spread across the country getting a grant.

It’s meant to “address staffing gaps and produce lasting improvements in their operations to respond to the intensifying impacts of climate change.” That means the money will be spent on supplementing up to 80 per cent of the salary of a new or existing municipal employee to work on climate change projects.

The grants are available from the federal government to places with populations of less than 150,000. They’ll be handed out over a two-year period.
