Lions help out Big Brothers Big Sisters Muskoka

One local charity helping another.

The Bracebridge Lions Club presented a cheque to Big Brothers, Big Sisters Muskoka for $1,000. It is part of ongoing support the Lions give to various organizations in the community.

Lions Club President Mike Guiry says it is the best part of being involved with the organization.

“This is the fun part of being a Lion, is coming out and giving the money away,” says Guiry.

Samantha Ennest is Executive Director for BBBS Muskoka and says this type of donation is crucial to the work they are trying to do in the area.

“All the contributions we receive are vitally important because we are not publicly funded at all,” she says. “So we completely rely on fundraisers, donations, sponsorships, and contributions from our community.”

The Lions held a fundraising draw for a bicycle in the fall, and it did quite well.

“We ended up with a fair amount of money from the bike draw,” recounts Guiry. “The treasurer decided it was time to get rid of some of it.”

BBBS Muskoka looks to match up youth in the area who are in need of an adult mentor in their lives.

The next big event for the organization locally is the Bowl for Kid’s Sake, coming up on March 1st. BBBS Muskoka is looking for bowling teams for this fun night of fundraising. You can find out more by clicking here.
