Government funds open 15 child care spots in Gravenhurst

A major announcement for child care in Muskoka has been made.

The District of Muskoka has revealed the province and the Government of Canada are establishing a new integrated Child Care and EarlyON Child and Family Hub in Gravenhurst.

It will be located at 180 Brock Street and provide the new location for the Nest Family Resource Centre and 15 new licensed child care spots for kids aged 0-12.

“Council is so pleased to have this investment from the Province and the Government of Canada to create these much-needed child care spaces,” said John Klinck, Chair of the District of Muskoka. “The integration of these new spaces with the EarlyON programming and The Nest’s resources into one hub will support and serve the community’s needs very well.”

The Ministry of Education pushed for submissions in 2017 for Community-Based Early Years and Child Care Capital Program Funding.

The funding was provided to support greater access to licensed child care and child and family program locations.

“This new integrated hub is great news for parents in Gravenhurst and the surrounding communities. The new facility will help make life easier for families by increasing choice when it comes to child care and increased child and family space,” said Lisa Thompson, Minister of Education.

The District is now in the process of selecting a licensed child care centre operator for the Hub and Programming. The grand opening is expected later this spring.
