OPP’s snowmobile patrol lays 11 charges over last week

The Bracebridge OPP’s Motorized Snow Vehicle patrol has been hitting the trails, lakes and roadways.

The OPP says it’s the patrol’s job to make sure snowmobilers are using those things safely and responsibly. Officers have been conducting random R.I.D.E. stops as well as mobile patrols throughout Muskoka.

On top of looking out for careless or drunk riders officers are also making sure people are using proper safety equipment and all of their paperwork is in order.

Last week’s patrols included eight R.I.D.E. checks that stopped 200 people. Of that, 11 charges were laid for a variety of things. Those included trespassing, helmets, alcohol and even fishing violations. One person had their driver’s licence suspended for three days for failing a roadside screening test.

The OPP is reminding snowmobilers that drinking and riding can lead to consequences for your licence.
