Area municipalities to benefit from infrastructure planning

Six area municipalities will benefit from government planning assistance.

MPP for Parry Sound-Muskoka Norm Miller announced the plans for the provincial government to provide infrastructure planning assistance to a total of 58 communities, including six in his riding.

The six municipalities in Parry Sound-Muskoka that will receive the assistance are the Village of Burk’s Falls, the Township of Carling, the Township of Lake of Bays, the Municipality of McDougall, the Township of Strong and the Municipality of Whitestone.

“This assistance will help six municipalities in Parry Sound-Muskoka and 52 other rural and northern communities plan for the future,” said Miller. “We know that infrastructure spending benefits families and businesses. This will help ensure the funds are spent on the right projects.”

Among the projects that will receive planning assistance are roads and bridge construction and the creation or expansion of water filtration systems.

The assistance provided will be real, boots on the ground interaction between the experts in the field and local planners.

“Our Government has heard from small municipalities,” said Miller. “We recognize that asset management planning is challenging work, especially for small municipalities with limited resources. I am pleased to be able to announce we’re responding by sending specialized assistance.”

Minister of Infrastructure Monte McNaughton contends this type of approach has real benefits to Ontarians.

“Infrastructure spending has real benefits for the people of Ontario,” said McNaughton. “But in our current environment, spending decisions must be targeted, sustainable and focused on the long-term.”
