Lakers nearly win it all in Peterborough

The Bracebridge Muskoka Lakes Secondary School boys hockey team nearly won it all.

The squad was participating in the St. Peter Classic, a hockey tournament featuring over 50 school teams from around the province.

In the B Division Championship final the Lakers took on Crescent School from Toronto, a prestigious private school team.

According to coach Wilf Lade, the team was playing with only four defensemen but kept it close allowing only single goals in the first and second periods before an empty netter gave way to the 3-0 final score.

“I’m so proud of how these guys played,” said Lade. “We beat some very good teams to get to the final.”

Indeed the Lakers took down two higher ranked teams to get to the championship match.

The team has played in this tournament previously but never made it past the first day. The Lakers played a total of six games in the two days, winning three and losing three.
