Rosewarne Landfill construction pre-approved ahead of 2019 district budget meeting

Muskoka’s new district council is already making budget decisions for 2019.

At it’s first official meeting of the new term, council was asked to pre-approve the $3.2 million price tag on construction of Cell 2 at the Rosewarne Landfill in Bracebridge. Cell 1 is expected to reach full capacity by July, which means the second Cell needs to be ready to take on the influx of garbage from around the district.

Generally, this project would have to wait for approval during the 2019 budget meeting in February, but district council gave the nod for pre-approval because of the tight timeline. The work is being awarded to Fowler Construction.

Cell 1 was completed in late 2016 and was given a three-year life span. The landfill has room for nine cells, all which can be built on-demand as needed. Together they can hold up to 950,000 tonnes of waste.
