Shoebox Project will help many women this Christmas

The Muskoka Shoebox project has had another successful year.

It is the fourth campaign locally which sees various community groups work together to provide small boxes filled with essentials and goodies to provide to women in hard situations in Muskoka.

Organizers Penny Burns, Barb Baldwin,  and Joanne Buie report the 2018 campaign has filled 1,296 boxes that will go out to women needing reassurance and hope.

In an open letter to all who have helped with the campaign, the Muskoka Shoebox Project thank a number of different groups for the assistance provided in creating so many boxes.

They point to Muskoka based service clubs that support the project financially.

Also, a big thanks is offered to the drop-off locations that provide space and staff to receive donations.

All the knitters that put in sweat equity making sure there is something warm to wear are also an important part.

There are also grocery stores that donate chocolate goods so something yummy is in the box.

The thanks continue with all the people that help gather the boxes for distribution.

In an open letter, the Shoebox Muskoka organizers say “it is so important to thank all the people who hosted or attended a shoebox party.

“Know that your shoebox is going into the hands of a woman in Muskoka this Christmas, who is looking for hope and needing a reason to believe that 2019 will be a better year for them.”
