Afternoon council meetings under consideration for District of Muskoka

Muskoka’s new district council may be holding its first and last evening meeting next week.

At the inaugural meeting held on Monday, the council was given notice of a proposal to change monthly meeting times from 7:00pm to 3:00pm. District staff believe the change will be helpful for councillors that need to travel from far away like Georgian Bay and Lake of Bays to the Bracebridge-based meeting space.

District officials explain meetings have historically run in the evening to offer transparency to the public. But, because meetings are now webcast and available to view on demand, that is no longer an issue.

The proposal will be considered and voted on during the first official meeting of council’s new term this coming Monday at 7:00pm. If passed, the change will take effect in January.
