Bracebridge, Huntsville getting 12 hospital beds to help deal with flu

Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare is getting funding for 12 surge hospital beds.

It’s part of 1,100 beds and spaces being funded for flu season across Ontario.

The Progressive Conservative government announced in October it would spend $90 million to fund the beds, which includes renewing the funding of more than 400 beds put in place by the previous Liberal government.

Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP Norm Miller says he’s pleased the area is getting these beds.

“These additional beds will allow the dedicated staff at the Huntsville and Bracebridge hospitals to treat more patients this flu season.”

The government says the funding is part of a large plan to end “hallway healthcare” that includes building more long-term care beds across Ontario. In October Premier Ford and Minister Elliott announced that Ontario is moving forward with building 6,000 new long-term care beds across Ontario, representing the first wave of more than 15,000 new long-term care beds that the government has committed to building over the next five years.
