OPP arrest fleeing driver in stolen canoe

A follow up to a crash on Highway 11 southbound near Bracebridge yesterday.

A man fled yesterday morning after the pickup truck and trailer with three stolen snowmobiles he was driving went off the road.

His method of escape? He stole a canoe and paddled into Bracebridge, where police found and arrested him.

52-year-old James Rye of Huntsville has been charged with Possession of Stolen Property, Breach of Probation, Theft and Break and Enter.

The crash took place south of Cedar Lane at 8:00am and police are looking for witnesses who may have seen the incident and the search in the Wilsons Falls/Cedar Lane area of Bracebridge.
