Ontario government looking at ways to increase housing supply

The provincial government is looking for local insight to fix housing issues across the province.

Doug Ford and the rest of the Ontario government is hoping to pick the brains of rural communities on the best way to create housing for Ontarians.

From now until January 25th, people can give their thoughts and feedback to a survey. The survey can be found at the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing’s website.

According to the ministry, the goal of the survey is to help them create a Housing Supply Action Plan. The ministry explains the need for housing and lack of supply has driven up housing costs over the past few years. Ministry officials say the high cost of housing affects the government’s ability to provide housing for those in need. As well the high housing costs affect rural communities where the supply of housing is even further reduced.

The survey itself, asks people how they think the development approval process can be streamlined, how to lower the costs of developing homes, how to encourage owners to create legal second units and more.
