Gravenhurst Seniors not Forgotten at Christmas

An initiative to make sure some local seniors have a gift under the tree is underway.

Called Senior Wish Gravenhurst Muskoka, it’s an offshoot of Senior Wish in Barrie, which serves over 1,000 seniors annually.

Alissa Ahsome is the gift coordinator and is going into her third holiday season matching seniors with those who wish to help.

The first step is to register by clicking here.

“Each bag includes some standard items such as non-slip slippers or socks, a pajama set or robe,  and a blanket or shawl,” Ahsome explains. “I then send you the information of what the senior is wishing.”

She cites examples of seniors who might need a pair of winter boots or treats for their dog.

“You will have a unique tailored package (that goes to the selected senior),” says Ahsome.

Donation amounts of gift bags are between $50 and $100.

Once the gift bags are filled they are dropped off between December 11th and 15th at Tea-Beards, 101 Muskoka Road South, Gravenhurst.

Gift bags are then delivered to the seniors December 23rd.

Ahsome says there are a few more seniors looking to be matched up and you can also donate to the main Seniors Wish organization by clicking here.
