Brand-name prescriptions driving medication costs in Canada

The cost for prescription drugs is getting more expensive in Canada.
According to a Canadian Institute for Health report, each Canadian will spend nearly 7-thousand dollars on medication either through coverage or out of pocket this year. Experts say the drive in cost comes from the hefty price tag of name-brand drugs as generic brands aren’t as widely available.

Police say the shooting started as an argument in the hospital parking lot before the gunman opened fire killing a pharmacist, a doctor and an officer. In Ontario, an inmate opened fire in a hospital in Kingston after grabbing a correctional officer’s gun. One person was injured.

CBC reports the government branch is reviewing its Federal Tobacco Control Strategy, which ran for 16 years and cost millions of dollars. This comes as the number of smokers spiked in the last few years by 13 per cent.

Freedom Mobile takes aim at big wireless brands in Canada again

After forcing big wireless companies to slash prices last year, Freedom Mobile is at it again.
The Shaw Communications branch is offering 100 gigabytes of data for $60 on a two-year plan. Last year around the same time, Freedom Mobile offered a $50 for 10 gig plan, which forced companies like Rogers and Bell to offer similar deals.
