Santa’s Village Reindeer Still Missing

Santa’s Village is missing one of its resident animals.

A reindeer, part of the animal attractions of the popular Bracebridge area kid’s theme park has escaped from an animal enclosure.

The reindeer was last seen at Ziska Road and Highway 118W.

Jolanta Kowalski from the Bracebridge office of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says the responsibility for recovering the animal rests with the owners.

The owner of Santa’s Village has advised the local MNRF office of the situation.

“It is the owner’s responsibility to recapture the escaped animal which we have told them,” Kowalski wrote in an email.  “MNRF continues to monitor the situation and is in regular contact with the owner.”

She adds that while the reindeer might be partially domesticated, the pressure it is now under in the wild could change the way it behaves.

“As the animal is now in an unfamiliar setting, it may pose concerns for injury to livestock, property damage and possible vehicle-reindeer collision,” she writes. “We know the OPP is also monitoring the situation from a public safety perspective.”

If anyone sees this animal, please call the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s Bracebridge Office at 705-645-8747 or contact Santa’s Village at (705) 645-2512.
