Norm Miller expresses pride over mattress recycling partnership in his riding

Norm Miller is commending Muskoka for using a service to recycle old mattresses rather than dump them.

The Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP says the district has partnered Ontario Mattress Recycling in Barrie to dispose of old mattresses, which the company repurposes. Miller says up to 95 per cent of the mattress is recycled for use in other new products.

He says so far Muskoka has redirected about 600 mattresses from the landfill to this recycling plant. He says with a permanent partnership starting in 2019, the district can expect to recycle over 12,000 mattresses each year.

The cost of the program is $26 per mattress for residents.
