Muskoka Shoebox Project aims for 1,000 boxes to help women in need

A Christmas campaign growing in popularity in Muskoka is reaching out for help once again.

Organizers with the Muskoka Shoebox Project are setting a goal of 1,000 donations this year to help women in local shelters this holiday season. Making a donation is simple, you get a shoebox and fill it with about $50 worth of items these women can use like toiletries, socks, mitts, treats and gift cards. Organizers encourage donators to add a heartfelt or uplifting note to the box as well.

Once collected, the boxes are evenly distributed to many of the women’s shelters and women support networks in Muskoka.

Over the last few years, it has run the campaign has steadily gained more attention, bringing in nearly 1,100 boxes last December. If you’re interested in getting involved you can find more details here.
