District of Muskoka stops mailing social assistance cheques over postal strike concerns

Your Ontario Works cheque is not in the mail.

The District of Muskoka stopped mailing assistance cheques last Friday over concerns of a possible postal strike. Cheques will be available for pick up at the district offices in Huntsville, Bracebridge and Gravenhurst starting tomorrow afternoon.

The union representing Canada Post workers has decided to postpone a strike to give the crown agency more time to respond to its latest demand for better pay and working conditions. Union officials have warned a strike is still possible if negotiations drag out further.
